About

It is our belief that theatre can be transformed and renewed through international exchange. We believe in conducting an open dialogue with the aim of extending our contact network and reaching a wider audience – in short, that a curious mind brings new friendships, ideas and cultures that together contribute to an inclusive and generous society and an open theatre community that welcomes everyone.

 Festival goals:

  • to initiate a recurring event at Dramaten with the aim of benefiting the dramatic arts, both at the national and at the international level, by presenting performances from all over the world that have been produced in the spirit of Ingmar Bergman.
  • to appeal to Swedish and international visitors as well as involving both a wide audience and professional artists.
  • to create engaging and inspiring platforms where audiences and artists are able to meet and interact.
  • to present to the world the Swedish national stage as a creative centre in one of Europe’s most attractive capitals.

 Internal goals:

  • to stimulate, develop and challenge people who work at Dramaten by introducing them to other cultures, fellow artists, forms of expression and values
  • to initiate future partnerships together with the invited drama groups and artists
  • to plan and produce the festival in a sustainable way.

The festival is to invite productions of classical and contemporary drama; adapted, staged and performed in the spirit of Ingmar Bergman:

  • that are characterized by a strong, individual artistic expression and with an emphasis on text, direction and performance
  • that explore fundamental existential topics
  • that communicate with the audience in an entertaining, engaging and challenging way
  • that are infused with curiosity, playfulness and a great love for the actors
  • that encourage people to come together, communicate and exchange knowledge and experience
